This driver was behind me. I turned my blinker on to switch lanes, started to change, and out of nowhere the car behind me speeds up and comes up next to me, cutting me off from switching lanes. I had to quickly swerve back to my lane to avoid being hit. Then, about 5 minutes later the car was next to me. I didn't even see they were there until they threw a drink at my car. We were going 60+ MPH on the interstate. Ice hit my windshield and side window, startling me and the car behind me.
I'm being fair here based on my perception of what I read you typed. If cars are coming up 'out of nowhere' on you and you've been traveling on the same road with them for five minutes, you basically just told me you're not checking any mirrors and lack any kind of situational awareness while driving. Just because you use a turn signal does not openly allow a merge, and if you didn't know where that car was 5 minutes later? That leads me to believe no mirrors were checked. If I were in that situation, the last time I would have seen that cars position would have been in the last 15 seconds. Stay safe out there, lesson right here, some people's opinion of defensive driving can be different from the status quo.
