Hit and Run 12-13-17 (5:15 PM Zoo Dr)
I was riding towards Griffith Park on Victory Blvd from Burbank. While crossing the 134 freeway there is a series of two quick stop signs and the road is 4 total lanes wide (2 each side) with a bike lane that is quite rough from construction. The first stop sign is adjacent to an on ramp and the second stop sign is a T-intersection all way stop. The first stop sign is a maximum 20 yards from the second, T-intersection, in which I was intending to turn right where there is less traffic, continued bike lane, and eventually a protected climb. As this was a workout...I was traveling 15-20mph through this section at the time and staying in/as close to the bike lane as possible. I was traveling through the area at dusk/dark but was running flashing rear tail light, red flashing light under my bottom bracket, and front Mitycross 800 lumen headlight.
In this section of road, Victory - Zoo Dr, most cars either hop on the Freeway to the right before the two stop signs or line up in the left lane to head towards another freeway interchange near the Zoo or continue on to Los Feliz, Hollywood, etc. Shortly before approaching the first stop sign over the 134 fwy a blue Audi A4, liscence plate 7FGZ462, changed lanes from the L where traffic was heavier, waiting to turn, to my lane R and forced me to stop short abruptly as he narrowly beat me to the stop sign. I rolled through the sign closely behind him to remain protected and we the approached the second stop sign to turn R. I rolled this one as well to carefully stay near the car and remain protected.
I am now on Zoo Dr heading towards Travel Town in Griffith Park and I take the bike lane and begin to pick up speed. The Audi who recently overtook me is now merging ahead of me (10-15 yards away) fully into the bike lane and slowing down (his passenger side was close enough to the curb to park even though this is a no parking zone. I assumed he was pulling over to make a phone call, operate his phone, etc so I needed to then take the lane to avoid a full stop/slamming into his rear end. I checked over my shoulder for incoming traffic, saw the lane was open, and immediately got out of the saddle to increase speed while passing in traffic. As I was about to pass the slowing Audi who has fully taken the entire bike lane without signaling, he then whipped a sharp U-Turn without a signal once again. Strava shows I was at 20mph at the time of the incident.
Once I noticed the front of his car begin his sharp U-Turn I immediately locked up my breaks, but since he slowed down when he took the bike lane and I accelerated I was now within feet of his vehicle. I tried to turn with the U-Turn but ultimately I could not slow my momentum, and I only have 3 rides on my new breakpads). I hit his rear quarter panel and flipped off the bike. He slowed for a moment and proceeded to drive off, but I was able to make out 7-Something as his liscence plate while I was on my back in the middle of the road wondering what just happened.
After a short while I collected myself and got off to the side of the road and assessed my injuries and bike. My handlebars were bent from the impact and my wheel may need straightening. I put my chain back on, adjusted my breaks and pursued the hit and run offender as I knew he was stuck in traffic going South on Zoo Dr as I bike these roads several nights/week.
Upon confronting thr driver, he apologized and claimed he didn't know he hit me. Mind you I'm 215lbs and traveling 20mph there is no way he didn't know. Sadly this was all over him not wanting to wait in a left turn line so he cut me off twice then made an illegal U-Turn just to save 2 min from his commute. It's Xmas and I didn't want to ruin the guys life as he had his daughter in the car...so I'm gonna let him slide I guess unless he has other cyclist related incidents.

This driver tailed gated me, made a short change to the lane to my left, tail gated another car, and then swerved in front of me. Almost got into an accident (would have hit them if I did not brake quick enough). I estimated about 1 foot of space between their rear bumper and my front bumper at the time they swerved in front of me. This vehicle has "106KMEL" advertising on the back (see photo: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19lxuBb1ej9eTcJVpSnQh-14lr88jMJS1/view?usp=sharing ).
