Happens to me all the time. I used to commute to 12 miles to work and it would happen sometimes 2-3 times a day, and they don't care. Bikers simply have to be super vigilant, especially when going through intersections. I added big, bright, purple LED lights to my mirrors, which cut it down a bit. I also have a helmet cam so I can turn damning footage in to the police. Not that the police care most of the time, but if he got hurt, at least you could prove the other drive was at fault.
